Meet Katya, the Ornate box turtle! Katya is a beautiful and shy turtle who likes to explore her surroundings and munch on earthworms.
We don’t know much about Katya’s past, as she was found out of state and brought to Colorado by some well-intended individuals. The only clue was a sparkly pink “K” painted on her shell. Katya is quite shy so we believe she may have been a wild box turtle before being brought to one of our shelter partners who then surrendered Katya into our care. Katya has been through quite a journey before arriving at RACR!
Ornate box turtles are a native species here in Colorado, using their yellow striping to blend in with the dry prairie grasses. These omnivores love to snack on grasses, greens, vegetables, and insects!
Katya would thrive in a home where she can have secure outdoor access during the warm months and a safe indoor home during the winter. Interested in meeting Katya or learning more about her care? Click the button below!
